Quick answer: to convert PDF to JPG, load the file in a PDF to JPG converter, pick the pages, choose a resolution (150 DPI is a good default) and download the images or a ZIP.
A JPG is easy to drop into a slide, a chat or a web page, which a PDF page is not. Converting draws each page as a picture.
How to convert PDF to JPG
- Add the PDF. Page previews appear.
- Pick the pages. Tick them, or type a range such as 1-3, 7. All pages are selected by default.
- Set resolution and quality. See the next section.
- Convert and download. Save single images or the ZIP.
Which DPI should you choose?
DPI sets the pixel size of the image. For a standard A4 or Letter page:
- 72 DPI gives about 600 by 850 pixels. Good for small previews.
- 150 DPI gives about 1240 by 1750 pixels. Good for screens and sharing.
- 300 DPI gives about 2480 by 3500 pixels. Use it for printing or fine detail. Files are much larger.
JPG quality
A quality of 85% is hard to tell from the original for most pages and keeps files modest. Use 95% when you need the best result, and 70% for the smallest files.
What the converter does not do
- It draws whole pages. It does not pull out the separate photos stored inside a PDF.
- JPG has no transparency, so pages are drawn on white.
- Very large pages are drawn slightly below the chosen DPI so the browser does not run out of memory, and you are told when that happens.
After converting
When you convert a single page, the What next? panel lets you pass it to the Image Compressor or Image Resizer directly.
