Quick answer: to split a PDF, open a PDF splitter, load the file, type the pages you want, such as 1-3, 5, 8-10, and download the result. Pages are copied from the original, so quality does not change.
Most PDFs carry more than the reader needs. Taking out one chapter, a signature page or a single receipt keeps files small and keeps unrelated pages private.
How to write page ranges
A range is a list of page numbers separated by commas. A dash means "through".
- 5 is just page 5.
- 1-3 is pages 1, 2 and 3.
- 1-3, 5, 8-10 is three ranges: pages 1 to 3, page 5, and pages 8 to 10.
Page numbers count from the first page of the file, not from the number printed on the page. A cover page is page 1 even if the next page says "1".
Three ways to split
- Separate PDFs. Each range becomes its own file. The example above gives three files.
- One PDF. All the listed pages go into a single new file, in the order you typed them.
- Every page. Each page becomes a one-page PDF, delivered as a ZIP.
How to remove a page from a PDF
List every page except the one you want to drop and use the One PDF mode. To remove page 4 from a 10-page file, type 1-3, 5-10. The original is left untouched.
How to reorder pages
The One PDF mode keeps the order you type. Entering 3, 1, 2 gives a file that begins with the original page 3. Ranges in the Separate PDFs mode may not overlap, but you can run the tool twice if you need the same page in two files.
Things to know
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
- Bookmarks and some form behaviour may not carry over to the new files.
- The tool checks every output by re-opening it and counting pages.
